About Bumps & Babes

Bumps & Babes is a site for parents-to-be and new parents filled with useful information and resources about pregnancy, baby-care and family life in Shanghai. Bumps & Babes was established in 2006 as a support group by Mary Clarke, a Shanghai expat mother, who realized there was an un-met need amongst expat women for information about pregnancy and baby-care in Shanghai. The group was received with great enthusiasm and has so far welcomed the participation of thousands of women of all nationalities.

In March 2011 Bumps & Babes grew into a full-fledged and independent portal dedicated to providing expat families in Shanghai with useful information about pregnancy and life with young kids in Shanghai. Information on the website is split into 7 useful categories, making it easy to find relevant information: For Mom, Getting Pregnant, Pregnancy & Birth, Babies, Toddlers +, Nutrition, and Life In China. Content on the website includes notes from past talks, relevant news stories, as well as detailed content provided mostly by specialists carefully selected to be on our panel of experts. In addition, moms can make use of our free birth announcement service, our pregnancy calendar, our barely used market, our getting ready lists, our Chinese baby/pregnancy vocabulary sheets, information on registering your baby after birth, what to do in case of emergency, and much much more, to name just a few of the exciting new additions to the website.

Bumps & Babes is not just a website but a community with a face; in collaboration with Shanghai Doula, Bumps & Babes hosts regular talks in Puxi & Pudong, where guest speakers are invited to speak, covering a wide range of relevant topics for pregnant women and new parents in Shanghai. This enables our moms to meet, develop lasting connections, and swap tips about pregnancy and baby care in Shanghai. To strengthen this sense of community, the Bumps & Babes portal now contains a notice board where moms can leave each other messages and ask for tips or advice

Bumps & Babes is free for users and charges advertisers. However, please rest assured that Bumps & Babes respects your privacy and will never sell or share your personal information with a third party.

Published: Wednesday, 19 June 2013

Except — unlike you, I was holding my new baby, Kate, in my arms when I found out. She was wrapped in a blanket, looking up at me as I cried, listening to the neonatologist on staff tell me — only minutes after she was born — that she had Down syndrome. And what that meant. Read on.

06/10/2013 The Pregnancy Bucket List (Babble)

Published: Thursday, 13 June 2013

It's time for me to start crossing things off my pregnancy bucket list!

I realize that 'bucket list' may not be the best term to use when talking about pregnancy, given it is associated with death. To be very clear, I'm not planning on kicking the bucket at the end of this pregnancy...but sometime very soon this pregnancy will be done, over, gone! And all you seasoned moms out there know that my current lifestyle will be dead the moment this new little baby is born. My older kids, ages 5 and 3, are potty trained and capable of going several hours without eating. It is liberating to go to the playground with just my wallet, keys, and phone, easy peasy. Read on.
