Are health check-ups for ayis necessary?
Question:
I am expecting my third child this summer but it will be my first one to be born in Shanghai. My neighbour told me she had her driver and ayi tested for TB and something else (she couldn’t remember) before her baby was born but because they are already taking care of my other two children who seem to be fine I wonder should I still ask them to go do some tests or assume it’s ok? If yes, which ones do they need and where should I ask them to go? I don’t want to offend them if there is no need.
Answer:
I recommend that caregivers who are in frequent close contact with your family be tested with an X-ray for TB. Chinese can get an X-ray at Shanghai Xiongke Yiyuan (chest hospital). Hep A and B tests are also recommended.
