Nipple changes in pregnancy
Question:
Hi, I am 31 weeks pregnant and have recently noticed my nipples changing colour and shape – they are dark brown and have developed small lumps. Should I be concerned and show this to my doctor? Thanks!
Answer:
These changes are normal and mostly related to changing hormones and your body preparing for breast feeding. Sometimes during pregnancy small bumps may form on the nipple called, Montgomery's tubercles. Signs that would be concerning are if the breasts are red or swollen. It's always ok to ask your doctor questions if you have any concerns.
