Helping Your Child Develop Social Skills (Talk Puxi)

Ever had to cringe at your child's lack of social skills? You know he/she means well, but that stuffing their bunny in another child's face isn't a good way of communicating with them, as is hitting/grabbing/pulling for attention? The things we might put up with playfully as adults but that other children just don't enjoy... how can we teach our children to relate to other children in a way that is appropriate for their age? Amy Quigley from Western International School (WISS) will join this Bumps & Babes talk to give us tips on helping our children develop the necessary skills to deal with social situations by themselves.

The Power of Play

Parenting young children can be exhausting and overwhelming. Parents spend much of their time managing their children’s behavior. Make no mistake, this needs to be done in order to teach them about appropriate behavior, responsibility, and boundaries, but there needs to be more. Child-centered play provides parents with one means of showing their children unconditional love that is the glue that holds all good relationships together. Because play is the language of children, engaging in child-centered play with your child will allow you to learn more about his/her inner life, strengthen your connection to him/her, and make deposits in your relationship's emotional bank account. This presentation and discussion will teach you some strategies to support your child’s emotional wellbeing and positive behavior through play. This presentation will be led by Dr. Beth Kremer-Collins, Clinical Psychologist.
